Montauk State Park

345 County Rd 6670, Salem, MO 65560

Welcome to an outdoorsman’s paradise! Mostly known for its main attraction, trout fishing, this park also offers hiking, camping, and picnicking – making it a must visit! I know what you’re thinking, “I’m not an avid fisher though, will I still enjoy this park?” Honestly, we’re not either, but its nice getting out and enjoying nature and all the things it has to offer. Plus, how can you not enjoy it with views like these:

Where to Stay

Montauk State Park offers many lodging options within the park itself! Inside the park, you will find single, duplex and fourplex, 1-3 bedroom cabins, and motel rooms. We rented a 1 bedroom cabin and paid an additional pet fee for the weekend. Also, if you’re planning on staying inside the park most of your stay, the park offers a dining lodge, snack bar, and store.

Trout Fishing

This trip was our first time trout fishing so of course we had a few things we needed to get before we started. First things first, we had to obtain Missouri Fishing Licenses and daily trout tags – both of these can be purchased inside the park’s store by the dining lodge. We also needed the appropriate lures, bait, and waders. In some fishing areas, waders are definitely a must have, especially during the early spring and fall as the water temps tend to drop. If we’re being honest here, I had no idea what I was doing at first, but by the end of the weekend, I ended up catching the biggest trout of our group. So, yes I’m kind of proud 🙂

Overall Experience/Thank You

Missouri has a TON of state parks, but this one is definitely one of my top favorites I’ve visited so far! If you’re looking for outdoor fun, relaxation, and views this is the place to go. The only con is there is little to no cell service but who cares when you’re looking for a weekend getaway or a brief break from the world.

As always, THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU to those who continue to share, read, and support my blog! You are the best and I hope you continue to follow along with me!
